IC & OOC - The Differences Readers [link to this!]

Overall, there are two types of posts that you can make - there is one where you are playing your character and where you can talk to other chatters without being your character. If you look at the "how to" so you know how it's done, here's a few pointers

Good Uses for OOC
- Asking Questions
- Getting to know your character
- Making a joke
- Catching up etc

Things you shouldn't do
- Use it overmuch, people like to RP and it interrupts
- Insult people (this will likely get you warned)
- Use it for excessive criticisms (again... not good)

Acronyms and Abbrieviations Readers [link to this!]

Yup. every chat place has it's own little quirks, abbrieviations and little jokes. Here's a small (yet not comprehensive!) list that we collected ages ago, some will be 'common' and then there's some that aren't.

Remember, if you see something you don't know - it never hurts to ask!

How To - IC, OOC, Singing Posts Readers [link to this!]

IC (or "In Character") posts

Generally there are THREE types of 'posts' (they can be mixed too don't forget!)

Are made by YOUR character, so anything you 'post' to the chat room is assumed to be made by your character and that usually ends up being

'spoken' which is words, language and you don't need to put quotation marks around anything! just put the words in and hit the post button!

However, you can get the second type of post making the difference between 'spoken' and 'action' is done by example #1. You'd use this to sort of announce what your character is doing. like

Hey you! come back with my pouch! *swipes at the kender's hands*

It has interesting uses, and is easily used.

There's also the sneaky third type of post which is usually reserved for 'singing' (bards and vocalists take note!) but it has been known to be used as 'whispering' to another character so everyone can see. Sort of like when you speak in hushed tones.

Boredrooms Rules and Etiquette Readers [link to this!]

The following list is of the rules that we enforce on our IC, Guild, and Out of Character Message Boards (we share our OOC system with our sister site Lost Havens). We ask that you follow all of them if you use our services, not following these rules may see you banned

  1. No namecalling, insulting, or attacking of any other user is permitted. Any personal problems you have with another user is to be kept OFF these boards.

  2. No excessive cursing (don't attempt to fool the censors), flaming, flooding, threatening, or inappropriate actions. PG-13 is the rating here, and keep it that way.
  3. Users opinions and ideas, nobody forced you to read it and everybody can say what they think. (individual board moderators can be messaged if you find things offensive.)
  4. Do not post links to files that are illegal for you to have or for you to share, or that promote illegal activity. This includes mp3s and other copyrighted materials.

  5. Do not spam/advertise products/services for personal or commercial gain. (no Spam!)

  6. Do not post "fluff" posts- these are posts that are completely pointless. This dosnt mean humor or silly posts, this means pointless ones.

  7. Dont be offended if something vanishes after a week or more- we have to clean up at some point.

  8. Do not, and we repeat, do NOT post on guildboards for guilds that you do not belong to. Unless you are requesting to JOIN that guild, do not post there. Regardless of what you say, it will be deleted and your account can be banned for posting where you're not supposed to be

Disputes & Conflicts Readers [link to this!]

When you have a problem with a moderator, please don't argue in the chats - any problem is to be taken to the admin staff (Ben, Hayley and Gren) who will help and discuss with the moderator involved about the issue.

Now, this doesn't mean that we're going to ignore your request, any feedback in regards to moderators is treated seriously and resolved in the quickest possible time, however there are a few things you must remember

- We trust our "grunks" (chat moderators!) and they wouldn't have the job if we didn't.
- We do keep logs, so please be aware that we will look at the preceeding situation, and other issues
- A history is kept on users who break the rules, so if you've been unusually unruly, it doesn't look good really.

However - you need the method of contacting us

We're available on the Boredrooms - post a message in the Chat Memos board asking us to contact you, and we will if you don't know how to contact us!

There will be a complaints board set up for this in the future most likely - which removes all to a mediated setting, but we're still building this!

Banning/Removal Readers [link to this!]

A banning is a final solution to a user who has either

a) Broken the rules and been warned (minor) and then removed

or

b) Broken the rules that clearly state that it is a bannable offence

When you are removed from the chats, your account is clearly deleted from the system and note taken. We do keep an eye out for those who re-apply with another email address, and those that do so are removed without a warning, or a second doubt.

If you have been banned - your options are to seek resolution through the steps in the "disputes" section of the KPG

'Warnings' Readers [link to this!]

Ocassionally when people break the rules (wittingly or accidentally!) we have the mods who will approach users and tell them of the problem and suggested ways of finding a solution.

Now a warning is just that - it's a moderator stating the problem and it's up to the user who has done so to follow that instruction, please don't argue with a moderator, they're very clear cut on their standings.

See the section about disputes if you have problems - don't argue in the chats, you'll just get removed.

Please note!

We keep record of warnings, and if you are known to have broken the rules and been priorly warned, you may not receive a warning, you may be removed without arguement.

Chat Moderators (Grunk!) Readers [link to this!]

Every chat that is worth it's salt has a moderator, and for good reasons - one is that this place has a setting, some serious dedication to what's right and what's not.

In KC we use an anonymous persona called "Grunk" which is utilized by various moderators to ensure when they do their job that they can do it fairly.

What a 'Grunk' will do

- Keep the OOC to a minimum
- Stop personal abuse/arguements (redirect to better places)
- Moderate (if it's breaking the rules)
- Remove users who do not respond to warnings

What a 'Grunk' will NOT do

- Play favourites
- Be there 24/7 (they're people! not machines!)
- Be needlessly hard unless a user has broken the rules before
