The OOC/IC Rules for the chats

When you use the chats at Pathways/Foxpaws; you are obliged to follow the below rules which applies to any user that uses our services. Breaking these rules can result in you being banned. Logs are kept of all actions posted in our chats and we can/will use these logs to resolve any concern regarding these rules.

  • Be familiar with the difference between IC and OOC. - We try very hard to offer a resource to enable you to play here; and know what the setting is like ( http://prism.foxpaws.net/DragonLands/kpg/ ) and know the difference between the two.
  • Character Creation Rules; Copyright Issues. - Any character you make to interact with the chats; be aware that it must abide by the rules (linked above) and if you steal copyrighted material (concepts/trademarked/copyrighted material) - will remove offending items and assist if needs be with any actions as required.
  • Profane Language and Cursing - No profane language OOC, keep IC curses to a minimum and keep it to a PG13 rating.  Once again, this means no excessive sexual innuendo, cybering (simulating an adult situation), or any other similarly actions will not be tolerated in chats or in 'whispers'. You have other avenues if you wish to RP in this fashion (instant messaging services; other chats).
  • Common Courtesy - Be kind to new and current users, every person should encourage and not disparage. This goes both ways as you listen to advice, even if it is galling - take it with a pinch of salt. (Most players will use facilities/programs like AOL's IM, or ICQ, or MSN to help you out)
  • Insulting Others - No OOC (out of character) name-calling, insulting, etc. You don't like being treated like that, no one else does either! If you have a problem with another character say something more intelligent than "F*ck you!!! A**hole!" it'll WILL get you banned.
    Try to personal problems that you have with other chatters out of the chats and board rooms.
  • Grunk, Our Moderator - Smart mouthing, taunting, and arguing with the moderators is never an intelligent move - all Moderators/Grunk/Kcops are there to keep the chats there free from abuse and focused on Roleplaying. If Grunk requests you do something - you are obliged to follow what he says.

    Please Note: If you have a problem with Grunk and really feel the need to talk to us - email dragonlands@foxpaws.net; but remember we keep logs of all the chats and will look at the incident ourselves. So if you broke the rules - be it on your own head.
  • Power playing/Being a Munchkin - 'Munchkinism' (breaking rules, cheating, playing invincible characters, etc) for more information on what a Munchkin is - see the munchkin page, . The Kender Pocket Guide exists to help you with playing here and how the game is played.
  • Inappropriate Links - Do not use links or advertise inappropriate sites. (which includes and is not limited to: x-rated pornographic sites, and 'hate' sites, illegal materials, warez, illegal software download sites etc)
  • AD&D/Rules - .While it helps to know a bit about AD&D, it is not necessary to roll dice or use 'stats'. Furthermore, do not pressure people into putting stats in their bios or rolling dice. Some people prefer to freeform, and that's fine, and can refuse to play 'that way' or you will find yourself being warned.
  • Technology/Guns etc. - No modern or futuristic technology (phones, guns, light sabers, etc.) because this is primarily a medieval setting. Any 'technology' created is by gnomish inventors and usually has a very high chance of 'backfiring' and doing the opposite of it's intention, or blowing up sky-high.
  • Playing 'Right' - Please ensure any character you bring fit the setting and adhere to the Character/Character Creation rules. These are listed in the appropriate places to remind you. Please familiarize yourself with them, and avoid problems.
  • Heroes and Artifacts - No characters found in any novels of DragonLance may be played. (or direct descendants of.) However, certain 'quest items' of 'mainstream' heroes (which are chat-wide quests, and most likely authorized by the review board) have been made available to certain characters (honor's face, dragonlances, etc) but this is a very rare occurrence.
  • Fighting in the Inn- Kipper's Inn is a place for people to meet, and calls for Nud to bring a drink. The house rules observe the rules of Solamnia, and if you have broken them it is up to you to deal with the consequences. However all patrons will observe that any damages to the inn, will see that any participant is removed from the premises - however the occasional fist-fight occurs and is ignored, so long as it doesn't get out of hand. (Ladies - no giving out the bouncer's number, rumor has it, he's a taken man!)
    Given that all that enter adhere to the fact that steel remains sheathed, so must the spell components and symbols of faith remain inactive, but can be prominently displayed if the law of the land permits. Patrons have been known to magically appear, but the establishment frowns on offensive applications of any form of magic, and those that do will find them to fail from the unusual magical wards of this inn.
  • Finally, 'Hacking' - Maliciously trying to 'trip up' the scripts or harm this site by mis-using the features that we offer will not be tolerated in any way. (this includes flooding in either the chats or ‘boredrooms’, 'reverse-engineering' our HTML that's created by the chats, bypassing the accepted way of interacting with our resources.) The person caught doing it will be banned immediately on a permanent basis, no questions asked.

About Characters and death and the 'consent' rule.

When playing IC - Character Disclaimer;

Your character in the course of role playing will be at risk of;

  • Being hurt (directly or indirectly)
  • Subject to random events (battles, wars, drunkards, evil/good characters)
  • Sometimes random adventures (usually administered, sometimes not)
  • Chat-wide plots/stories (with varying consequences)

While you are playing your character you are obligated to remember that where there is a 'battle' that can result in something violent;

  • You can run/move away if you don't want to be there (ignoring it is not ok, leaving the area is)
  • Use commonsense / courtesy; Killing someone's character without regard/automatically is not allowed. (and if it's munchkinism, you will be breaking the rules)
  • Legendary Characters who have been around have a reputation; most will know them by sight. Their skills and experience are renowned and not unknown to all.
  • If you pick the fight, you deal with the consequences if you fight. Don't complain when you get killed; you brought it on yourself.
  • If battle and a mage or warrior who's skills are legendary goes around killing people with powerful spells/abilities, remember there are guilds/npcs that can and will easily do the same en mass; quo quid pro. Word spreads.
  • When you play, you risk that your character can be hurt/harmed/killed. Being invulnerable/immune can be seen as munchkinism.
  • If you use magic mages know the consequences before they cast; they don't endanger the reputation of mages by letting fireballs off at random. they apply their magic intelligently and sparingly.
  • If you are using melee weapons; every warrior exerts control. They don't go around slaughtering people needlessly; they bring reputations that bring unwanted attention and people that reply in kind.
  • If you go 'questing' (official or not) your character is always at risk and can die in a quest unless told otherwise. Remember to ask the DM/Game Master and be aware.
  • Do not needlessly attack people because of personal OOC grudges; you will quite likely be banned.
